House Bill 3962, otherwise known as the "Affordable Health Care for America Act" passed the House late Saturday, November 7, 2009. The bill needed 218 votes to pass and received 220.
One Republican voted in support of the bill, Louisiana's Anh Cao ("Republican" from New Orleans). Mississippi's Bennie Thompson (District 2) voted for the bill, as did two Democrats from Arkansas districts and one from Tennessee. Of those who opposed the bill were 39 Democrats (including Mississippi's Travis Childers, Gregg Harper and Gene Taylor) and 176 Republicans.
